Jenna Kowalke is a photographer and visual artist from the United States. She works on problems of history, place, institutional authority, and the civic sphere. Moving through cities and spaces, Jenna photographs found conditions and the accumulated traces on surfaces, structures, and screens. Her work draws selectively from observation, archive, and appropriated material, building series that are documentary in impulse and conceptual in framework.
Jenna holds a BFA in Art Studio and Art History and an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her thesis examined the theoretical connections between institutional critique and the post-museum. Jenna is co-founder of BLUE SKIES, a Munich-based art collective engaging art and climate change. Her work has been exhibited in Germany and the United States.
